personality:
Nori is not your typical Japanese school girl. And when I say typical, I mean, quiet, shy, reserved, keep-to-herself and keep-her-head-down type. In fact, she's near opposite. For one thing, she's tough. Physically, she can handle herself. But verbally, emotionally, mentally, she's rock-hard. She won't let anything get to her and won't back down to anyone. She can take anything anyone throws at her and send it back a hundred times harder. She never backs down and always talks back, making sure to speak her mind and letting her opinion be heard. Nori always speaks first just to make sure that she gets the image across that she is tough, whether her comment is unkind or not, and oftentimes, makes very rude remarks without meaning to insult. Or just to make remarks in general. She's very blunt and doesn't beat around the bush when she says something, saying it as she sees it and making sure others know that's how she sees it. She's very independent and dislikes anyone helping her, determined to do things on her own, even at her own consequence. She's used to having no one to help her, and at this point, doesn't expect any other way. And in fact, when people offer help to her, she gets snippity and always shrugs it off.
She's strong-minded, set firmly on her own decisions, and when she makes a choice, she sticks with it and sees it through to the end. Surge isn't someone who just gives up when the going gets tough. She's tougher than the going and will take all that and more. She's gone thorugh hard times and rough situations and came out as a better person and she knows that she can take care of whatever is given to her, and if given the situation, she's gonna prove it. Despite how irrational and very much like a teenager she appears as, Nori is very, very responsible. This was what made her a good leader later on. She cares greatly for those around her, especially her friends, and is often the older sister figure -- one that the younger children and people around her can look up to because of her protective nature. She's used to being seen like this though, with her younger brother, Keitaro, in Japan, and then the adopted Jeffrey, the ghost mutant. And because fo this, she'd do anything for those and would protect them closely. She's quick to become attached to younger children and loves her little brother more than anything in the world, hurting her to be away from him and unable to speak with him.
However, Nori, again, despite her Japanese origins, is a very strong feminist and very independent. She finds distaste in her roommate, Sooraya's culture because she believes that it demeans women and has a very strong sense of self and pride in her sex. She's willing to run around naked if necessary because it's her body and she should be able to do what she wants with it, whether the boys are looking or not. In her words, "let them look." Oftentimes, this leads her to wear scantily clad clothing, as if to prove that her gender and the way she looks has nothing to do with how well she does things or what she accomplishes. She also very much dislikes hypocrisy and will always be the one to point it out in regards to others, especially when it comes to situations where people complain about their lives, and yet, have a much better one than her. She gets hurt by things like that very easily and despite the tough demeanor she puts up, is very sensitive to subjects like family and homelife. At times like this, instead of causing a big scene or confronting like she normally would, she usually shuts herself away from everyone else, blocking everything out with tough genre or horror rap music.
Nori is quick-tempered though. She's easy to get mad or annoyed by something, like when someone tells her that they don't like or along those lines. She's very confrontational as well and always there to address her problems with other people, even if it results in a fight. Unfortunately, that leads people to think she's obnoxious and honestly, she couldn't give a damn what they thought about her anyways. Normally. Children are an exception, especially when she wants them to like her. Despite all that, she's a quick-thinker and very good on her feet and in short-second situations. WHen she gets stumped, she keeps going or tries to find away around it, but like most speedsters, that leads her to be impulsive and often times not the tactition in missions.
Nori is a new generation of mutant, and at the same time, the old generation of teenager. She tries her best not to conform to her culture, but roots still lie deep. She's tough, determined, and electric.
abilities:
Electrical Absorption: absorbs electricity at all times: from static in the air, electrical appliances, outlets, etc (often causing lights to flicker, etc). She can't control the absorption, and thus must wear specifically-designed gauntlets at all times to regulate it. As the electricity builds up inside of her, it also causes her to be quickened in movement and words. Once it gets too much for her to control, her speech becomes almost indistinguishable.
• Lightning Blasts: She can discharge the energy through lightning blasts from her hands or body
• Superhuman Speed: ability to channel the energy into bursts of super-speed /dd>
any plans for your character here?
Naturally, the first thing on Nori's mind will be trying to get out. However, more than likely, she'll end up adopting the younger adventure-goers as pseudo siblings and just trying to help out where she can.
possessions:
Most notably would be the large stabilizer gauntlets she wears. Her cellphone. Her MP3 player with headphones. And her clothes.

sample journal entry:
Am I the only person still bothered by the fact that this is still basically a kidnapping?
[ there's a frustrated noise and then she's tapping her foot over and over again. ]
I guess it doesn't make a difference when we're on our way to get home, but considering how long it takes, I wonder if that'll ever happen -- But that's not the problem here. The problem is that this is so boring! I'm getting restless just sitting on this thing. The giant's lucky -- he gets to walk around. I bet he's not bored.
[ the foot tapping continues and now she's pacing in circles. ]
I really need something to do. Anyone want any help of some kind? Anything at all?
third-person sample:
The first thing she had tried to do when she "arrived" was run. And not the normal definition of run, no, hers was much different. In fact, it wasn't even running as it was traveling because that was how fast she went. She was electricity when she ran. Literally. However, when she was making those first few steps and the speed didn't come. There was no bolt of blue static, there wasn't the familiar feeling of electricity surging through her veins and becoming part of her very being.
It was like she was completely out of juice. She couldn't even feel the static in the air around her.
That was when she knew something was wrong.
Alright, so she knew something was up when she woke up in some strange fairytale village and the Institute was nowhere to be found. But honestly, she thought of it as a Danger Room simulation than anything else and the seriousness of the situation didn't sink in until she tried to use her powers. And that's when she started to get a bit nervous. Of course, that didn't mean run around, freaking out and panicking. No, she was trained for this. Sort of. Mostly it was training against the Hulk, but surely, there was a way to use knowledge like that in this sort of situation. She would have to find a way to make do.
Nonetheless, that didn't stop her from bringing cold, metallic fingers up to her face and running them through her vibrant blue hair. "You have got to be kidding me." Part of her was still begging for this to be a joke. The trees, the sky, the small village that she was leaving behind as she began looking for the rest of her team. None of this could be real. Noriko was on the firm belief at this point that she was dreaming. But she had never dreamed to be without her powers -- she loved them. And she knew mutants who were uncomfortable with their abilities often dreamed and wished for what it would be like without them.
She wasn't one of those mutants.
"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon. What am I supposed to do?" She was mumbling to herself now, hurrying from one tree to another and occasionally glancing back at the village behind her. This wouldn't be a damsel-in-distress situation. No, she wouldn't let it. She could figure things out and then she would find out why her powers weren't working and discover the way out of this and finally go home. Immediately. Because she knew, if she waited long enough, she would turn into the girl in the tower, waiting for Prince Charming to save her. And Nori was nothing like that. She'd be wearing that suit of armor and riding that horse and she would take down that tower.
It was just a matter of finding out how.
But for now, she would be left in the discomfort of for once, feeling without the electric shock in her body.
